WPL 2023: Sophie Eccelstone’s last over six handed maiden defeat to Mumbai Indians in Women’s Premier League
Sophie Eccelstone’s incredible six in the last over handed Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians their maiden defeat in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League.
UP Warriorz notched up thrilling win in the last over the match as they needed five runs to win the game. Right arm-fast medium pacer Issy Wong had the job to defend the target and she did well as Sophie missed to time first two deliveries.
But UP Warriorz’s Eccelstone came back strong as she smashed match-winning six at long-on on third delivery of the last over to register five wicket win.
While chasing 127, UP Warriorz had a troublesome start as both their openers – Devika Vaidya (1) and skipper Alyssa Healy (8) could not provide needed start to the side.
However, Tahlia McGrath (38) and Grace Harris (39) stitched match-defining partnership in the middle overs, only to Deepti Sharma (13) and Sophie Eccelstone (10) guide their side home in the last over of the match.
For Mumbai Indians, Amelia Kerr picked two wickets while Hayley Matthews (35), Harmanpreet Kaur (25) and Issy Wong (32) made crucial contributions in the 1st innings.
