Delhi: In a thrilling encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 7 (Saturday), South Africa demonstrated their prowess with the bat, outplaying and outsmarting Sri Lankan bowlers in the ongoing 2023 World Cup match.

While batting first, South African duo – Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen – set the stage on fire, both notching brilliant centuries in the first innings.

However, it was Aiden Markram who stole the limelight with a record-breaking century, etching his name in World Cup history.

Markram’s explosive innings saw him reach a century in just 49 balls, marking the fastest century in the history of the World Cup.

The 29-year-old right-hander displayed sublime form, smashing 14 boundaries and three towering sixes on his way to an astonishing 106 runs.

The defining moment came in the 46th over of the innings when Dilshan Madushanka bowled a short delivery directed towards Markram’s body.

Unfazed, Markram unleashed a powerful pull shot, sending the ball soaring over deep square leg for a flat six. The stadium erupted in applause as Markram acknowledged the adulation from the Delhi crowd.
