Who is Jiban Krishna Saha — TMC MLA arrested by CBI in West Bengal’s ‘teacher recruitment scam’

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested first time Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha on Monday morning in connection with the alleged teacher’s recruitment scam.
Saha is the third MLA from the ruling Trinamool Congress to be arrested by the Central agency. Earlier, minister Partha Chatterjee and later MLA Manik Bhattacharya was arrested in the alleged scam.
The Print has reported that CBI is currently investigating transactions between the MLA and job seekers, approximately Rs. 300 crores.
Who is Jiban Krishna Saha?
Saha is a teacher by profession and belongs to a business family. As per reports, in 2004, Saha began teaching at a primary school before taking to Birbhum district to join Debagram High School in 2013.
Saha is reportedly close to TM Birbhum District President Anubrata Mondal, and has been associated with the party since his college days.
Saha contested election:
Saha fought the 2021 West Bengal elections and became the first TMC MLA to win from the Burwan Assembly constituency, beating BJP’s Amiya Das with 2,753 votes. He quit teaching after that.
Family Background:
Jiban Krishna Saha’s father, Biswanath Saha owns an oil mill and a potato cold storage in Sainthia in the state’s Birbhum district and runs ration distribution centre.
Saha currently overseas these business for his father. His wife Togore Saga was reportedly appointed a teacher in 2017 in Andi Primary School, located within 100 meters from their home.
