KOLKATA: The Indian cricket team secured a resounding 243-run victory against South Africa in their eighth 2023 ICC World Cup match, powered by Virat Kohli’s record-equalling 49th ODI century.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma praised Kohli’s exceptional performance, acknowledging that the challenging pitch required someone of his caliber to navigate the situation.

“Today was not an easy pitch, you needed someone like Kohli. We needed him to go out there and play the situation,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

Rohit Sharma about Shreyas Iyer-:

Speaking about Shreyas Iyer’s impressive 77-run innings off 87 balls, Rohit Sharma emphasized his unwavering faith in the batter.

“Even if the faith hadn’t been repaid, I would have still stuck to them. We need to keep the trust. It can’t be done every day. The last two games have shown what Iyer is capable of,” Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma about Indian bowlers-:

Rohit also lauded the bowling department, attributing India’s success to the seamers.

“We got a decent score, and then the seamers did the job. We lost a wicket in the first over. Then got runs, and then the seamers did well. For Shami to come back the way he has shows the mindset,” he added.

Rohit Sharma about Ravindra Jadeja-:

Regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s contribution, Rohit highlighted his versatility and consistency.

“Jadeja has been very good for us, playing in every format over the years. Today was a classical case of what Jadeja is for us. He came out at the death and scored vital runs, then picked up wickets. He knows his role and knows the expectations from him,” skippe said.

The Indian skipper concluded by emphasizing the importance of not becoming overconfident.

“Not to get too ahead of ourselves has been the talk in the dressing room. A couple of big games are coming up, and we don’t want to change anything,” Rohit emphasized.
