WATCH: Venkatesh Iyer smashes 49-ball century vs Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023

Mumbai: KKR batter Venkatesh Iyer smashed a blistering century during game against Mumbai Indians at iconic Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, on Sunday afternoon.
While batting first, Kolkata suffered early blow but Iyer stood tall against Mumbai’s bowling and completed his 49-ball century at Wankhede stadium.
Meanwhile, Venkatesh Iyer also became the first Indian batter for his franchise to smash century in Indian Premier League. Earlier, Brendon McCullum was the only batter who smashed century for Kolkata Knight Riders in the history of the IPL.
Iyer came to bat when KKR was struggling at 11-1, but the right-handed batter smashed nine sixes and five fours to propel team’s total to 185-6. As Iyer completed his maiden century in T20 league, he bowed down KKR dugout and acknowledged the appreciation from everyone. Watch.
While speaking at mid innings interview, KKR batter showed confidence on his bowlers as he claimed that KKR will easily defend the total.
“Feels great, coming to Mumbai and a game is always special. Getting a hundred is even more special. I think the boys will defend the total. I want to play for the team, I am not going to think about the 16th over when I am in the 6th over, just try to focus on the present moment, dont want to think far too ahead,” Iyer said.
