WATCH: The moment for which Nepal’s WK Asif Sheikh won ICC Spirit Cricket Award 2022

Nepal wicket-keeper Aasif Sheikh has been adjudged Christopher Martin-Jenkins (CMJ) Spirit of Cricket Award 2022 for his selfless act to refuse the run-out of Ireland’s Andy McBrine in an T20I match in the Oman Quadrangular Series back in February 2022.

Sheikh was also awarded ICC Spirit Cricket Award for 2022 for the same.

It was the 19th over of the match which saw Nepal bowler Kamal Singh collided McBrine attempting to field the ball as the batters opted to take a quick single. With Ireland batter left on ground, the ball was thrown to the wicket-keeper.

However, Sheikh, who could have had dislodged the bails, refused to do so and allowed the batter to complete the run.

The video of the same has resurfaced on internet on Wednesday, as netizen once again relived the moment. Few of the Twitter user also hailed the Nepal wicket-keeper batter for his putting the ‘spirit of cricket’ above the game. Check the video.

When asked about the acknowledgement of of his gesture, Sheikh said that he accepted that it was a spontaneous decision and he was always taught to keep the spirit of the game above than anything else.
