WATCH: PV Sindhu’s 73-shot rally with Japanese Nozomi Okuhara at World Championship

Ace Indian shuttler PV Sindhu crashed out from the first round of the ongoing Malaysian Open, after losing to 2016 Olympian Champion Carolina Marin. Notably, the highly-competitive contest lasted for one hour. Sindhu lost 21-12, 10-21 and 21-15.

It was also the first game of PV Sindhu, since she bagged GOLD at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in August. Meanwhile, an old video involving Indian shuttler’s most competitive contest against Japanese Nozomi Okuhara, has resurfaced on social media.

This is not any battle between both quality shuttlers, but this particular contest from the World Championship in 2017 went down in the history books as it comprises 73-shots rally.

Yes, you read that right! In a grueling battle for the second round trip of the game, Sindhu and Okuhara engaged in a tight contest, before the Indian player clinched the round. However, Okuhara managed to win the first and third round of the game. Sindhu ended up losing the match 19-21 22-20 20-22 after battling hard. Check out the video.

With that defeat, India’s chances in the women’s singles campaign marked an end. Meanwhile, Malvika Bansod, ranked 28th in the world, was defeated by South Korean An Se Young, ranked fourth 21-19, 21-13, in 31 minutes.
