Virender Sehwag reveals why he turned down Virat Kohli’s request of taking head coach role. Check here
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has recently broke silence on him putting down Virat Kohli’s request of being head coach of Indian cricket team. While speaking to News18, retired cricketer revealed that when things were not going well between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble, the Indian batter requests Sehwag to succeed Anil Kumble.
“I would have applied if Virat Kohli and then BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary hadn’t approached me. We had a meeting and Choudhary told me that things were not working out between Virat and Anil Kumble, we want you take the coaching position. He told me that Kumble’s contract will expire after the Champions Trophy in 2018 and then you can travel to West Indies with the team,” legendary opener said.
“I didn’t say yes or not, but I said if I travel to West Indies, I would want my coaching staff, the assistance coach, bowling coach, batting coach and the fielding coach. I want my own choice for the support staff and I didn’t get that choice so I didn’t travel to West Indies,” Sehwag added.
Notably, Ravi Shastri succeeded Anil Kumble and stayed at the position for a while. He shared great rapport with Virat Kohli and the duo have become close to each other ever since.
