People Will Think I’m Playing For My Personal Milestone: Virat Kohli To KL Rahul

Pune: Virat Kohli, the prominent Indian batsman, achieved his 48th ODI century during India’s seven-wicket victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 19.

The path to this milestone was not without challenges, as Kohli was batting at 73 not out from 77 balls after 38 overs, with India needing just 28 runs to secure the win.

In a display of commitment, Kohli opted to take charge of scoring the remaining runs himself, and he received strong support from KL Rahul.

Although Rahul declined singles offered by Kohli, fearing that it might appear self-serving, Kohli persisted. Rahul later disclosed this exchange, explaining that he assured Kohli to pursue his century as India was clearly on the path to victory.

“I initially refused singles to Virat Kohli. He expressed concerns that people might think he was pursuing a personal milestone without taking singles. However, I reassured him that we were comfortably winning, and he should indeed complete his century,” Rahul shared during a post-match interview with Star Sports.
