UP Madrasa Survey will enhance quality of education amongst Muslim Youth: Qamar Ali, Member, UP Madrasa Education Board

An incident involving a brutal assault on minor kids in Gosainganj and Bahraich in two separate Madrasas (unregistered) sparked the idea to survey all such Madrasas in the stateinforms Mr. Qamar Ali, a member of the UP Madrasa Education Board in Uttar Pradesh. The UP government has ordered a survey of all unregistered Mdrasas to evaluate the facility on several parameters like students, teachers, staff and affiliation of the unrecognised madrasas with any non-government organisation.

A team comprising members of the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madrasa Education and the district administration recently surveyed the Muslim seminary Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in Lucknow. In a candid conversation with The Quotes, Mr Ali talked about the project’s significance and how it will improve the prevailing conditions of the madrasas in the state.

“After the cases from Gosainganj and Bahraich came into the light, several layers of discussion with relevant stakeholders in the society and administration, including the Child Welfare Committee, were held. We have 16,513 registered Madrasas in the state, but we wanted to know the exact numbers of unregistered Madrasa and learn in what condition these facilities are being operated,” said Mr Qamar Ali.

According to Mr Qamar Ali, the sole idea behind surveying the Madrasas is one of many steps to bring the Muslim community into the mainstream and let a healthy environment prevail in Madrasas.

“The state government inreases allocations by 10 per cent to all the 558 Madarsa which have registered themselves (online) with the government,” informs Mr Qamar Ali. Stressing on the quality of education among the community, Mr Qamar Ali conveys that the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh want the welfare of the Muslim community and nothing else.

“With the surveying, we will be able to evaluate these facilities on different parameters only to improve the condition. Small kids visit Madarsas seeking to get a basic education. Quran in one hand and computer in the other, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out his vision for uplifting the Muslim youth in 2018.

Shedding light on the process of the survey, Mr Qamar Ali informed that the surveys at district level would be guided and monitored by the District Magistrates and his able team. After getting the report from the district, the Minority Welfare & Waqf Department will submit the report to Mr Dharam Pal Singh, Minister of Minority Welfare, Waqf and Haj, Uttar Pradesh. “We are confident that the cabinet will take the right call after evaluating the report and the condition of madrasa will be much better in comin years,” concluded Mr Qamar Ali.
