UP Board to de-recognise 176 secondary schools over allegations of copying during exams

Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board) has started cancelling the recognition of 176 affiliated secondary schools after serving show-cause notices following grave complaints of copying.
Board’s secretary Divyakant Shukla has already sent a list of the 176 schools to the district inspectors of schools so that these schools are not made centres for the 2023 board examinations.
According to reports, the UP board had received complaints of copying in these schools during the board and internal examinations. Earlier, the board had already de-recognised 20 of the 176 schools. The maximum number of schools (27) is from the Azamgarh division, while four are from the Prayagraj division.
“These schools have been served show cause notices for anomalies done in the previous exams. While the board will follow the set procedure to formally de-recognise these schools in due course of time, listed schools will not be made exam centres for class 10 and 12 for board exams in 2023,” Mr. Shukla informed.
The matter will not be put before UP Board’s recognition committee, and the committee’s recommendations would then be sent to the state government for clearance before the recognition is withdrawn.
A report in TOI quoting highly-placed officials stated that reports had been sought from the district inspector of schools concerned and the joint divisional director of education (secondary) of the area.
Reportedly, strict action will be taken against the schools if they are found guilty of aiding in mass copying during exams last year.
In addition, show cause notices have been issued to New Children School, Sindhi Tola in Shankargarh, and its case has been referred for consideration by the recognition granting committee of the brand.

Reportedly, action against Pancham Lal Ashram Inter College of Gayasuddinpur in Transport Nagar, Dhumanganj, is also underway.
