Then SP MLA Atiq Ahmed grabbed properties of Sonia Gandhi’s relatives in Prayagraj when UPA was in power

Prayagraj: According to fresh reports, recently murdered gangster-turned politician Atiq Ahmed once grabbed Sonia Gandhi’s relatives’ residence in Prayagraj and after an intervention of then UAPA President, the then Samajwadi Party MLA retuned key to the rightful owner.

Reports have confirmed that Atiq Ahmed had forcefully occupied property of Veera Gandhi, who is the wife of Feroz Gandhi’s brother-in-law’s nephew.

It was 2007 when then SP MLA had forcefully occupied property of Veera Gandhi, The Palace Theater located on MG Marg in Civil Lines area of Prayagraj.

Since Atiq was an MPA from Phulpur and his Samajwadi Party was in power in the state, no one came forward to help Veera Gandhi, who had to eventually sought help from Sonia Gandhi.

ToI has reported that Atiq came to know about Veera Gandhi’s property, he forcibly took possession of it through his henchmen and got it locked. Sources informed that Veera Gandhi had tried to seek help from local police and the state government, but none of the officials helped her.

She reported sought the intervention of Sonia Gandhi. At Sonia’s behest, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, then influential leader of the Congress in Prayagraj, spoke to the district administration and the matter was sorted out.

Meanwhile, former IG, Lalji Shukla, then SP City in Prayagraj in 2001-03 told Times of India that Atiq was extremely greedy when it comes to real estate.

“He had grabbed several properties in the city but had to pull back in the case of Veera Gandhi,” officer said.
