Success Rarely Comes Easily: Anil Kumble shares valuable life lessions that ‘apply to cricket and life’
Giving up on our goals and dreams could be an easy way out, but one who refuses to quit and keeps pushing forward, even in the face of adversity, can achieve great things and inspire others to do the same. One of India’s greatest ever cricketers and legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble has recently shared a life lesson that applies to cricket and life.
“One of the moments that taught me the power of never giving up was when I bowled with a broken jaw against the West Indies in 2002. Despite the excruciating pain and the risk of further injury, I kept going because I believes in myself and my team,” Mr. Kumble wrote.
Further, the cricketer mentioned four crucial lessons that he believes are important for someone who is following his/her dream, despite a lot of challenges.
1 Resilience:
The Indian cricketer writes that ‘when we face tough situations, feeling overwhelmed and defeated is easy, but if we are able to tap into our inner strength and resilience, we can find the courage to keep going, no matter what.’
“In my case, I had to dig deep and stay focussed on my goals even when it seemed impossible,” writes Mr. Kumble.
2. Perseverance:
The cricketer also shared that perseverance is one of the most important life lessons one must keep in mind while following their goal.
“Success is rarely achieved overnight and often requires us to put in a lot of hard work and effort. We may be tempted to give up and move on when we face setbacks or obstacles. But if we can persevere and stay committed to our goals, we can eventually achieve them, even if it takes longer than anticipated,” Mr. Kumble writes on LinkedIn.
3. Team work:
The most common but still the one which is often ignored. Teamwork is the most important life lesson and the cricketer also believes that success does not come alone.
“We all need support and encouragement from others. In my case, I could not have bowled without the support of my physio and teammates, who helped me to stay focussed and motivated through the match,” said Mr. Kumble.
4. Inspiration:
Admit it! We all need inspiration at some point of life.
“We can inspire others to do the same when we refuse to give up and achieve our goals despite the odds. I hope that my experience can serve as a reminder to anyone facing tough times that they have the strength and resilience to overcome them,” writes Mr. Kumble.
In conclusion, Mr. Kumble opined that ‘never giving up is one of the most important qualities one can cultivate.’
