Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi has ranked Number 1 for the 2nd time in customer satisfaction survey conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) by achieving a score of 4.99 out of five. The survey was organised by AAI via a third party wherein Ranchi topped the chart among 55 other midsized airports leaving behind airports like Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Varanasi, Patna, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Trichy and others.

Ranchi Airport back in 2020 achieved a similar feat by earning 4.77 points out of five. As per the data, 1.2 million passengers travel via Ranchi Airport and 28 flights operate here, connecting major cities of the country. In a candid conversation with The Quotes, KL Agarwal, Director of Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi spoke at length about the consistent efforts made by his staff to achieve this feat and other aspects. Excerpts of the conversation.

Q] Congratulations for scoring number one rank in terms of customer service for the second time. Kindly explain the activities which has helped Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi to achieve this feat.

Answers: First of all, I would like to express gratitude towards all the stakeholders including the staff of the airport, and the passengers who follow every rule and regulation due to which were able to maintain the facility neat, clean and hygienic for everyone.

We have given utmost priority in keeping our facility neat & clean. From entrances to toilets, we have tried our level best to educate our passengers and always urge them to cooperate with us in keeping the airport neat & clean. Punctuality is the second aspect on which we never compromise. We have instructed all the top-brass of airlines operating from our airport to stay punctual. Our staff has also shown immense dedication in responding to passengers’ issues and complaints. We try our best to resolve their problems and treat them with respect. I have specially instructed my staff to keep note of these things and operate accordingly to leave a great impression on our passengers.

Q] Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi is currently operating close to dozen of flights. Since the pandemic, we have witnessed new airlines being introduced in the market and experts have made lot of positive predictions in terms of air connectivity. Kindly share if we are going to witness any new airlines operating from Birsa Munda Airport Ranchi.

Answer: Indeed, the future is great for Indian civil aviation. We are in talks with a couple of relevant stakeholders and discussions are being held at higher levels. Jet Airways have expressed their wish to operate from the airport. We will soon have some happy news for all the passengers travelling from the Birsa Munda Ranchi Airport. Even in the premises we are introducing some new projects which will surely enhance the experience of our travellers.

Q] Ministry of Civil Aviation has kept the deadline of 2030 to make all airports carbon neutral. Some significant steps have already been taken in major airports like Delhi International Airport and Mumbai International Airport Limited. Kindly highlight some flagship projects at Ranchi Airport which aim at reducing carbon emissions

Answer: Couple of our facilities are already operating on solar energy and I have always prioritized use of solar panels at such high-power consuming facilities. We are also using electric vehicles in our facility and some more significant steps will be introduced soon to work towards the cause. In the foreseeable future, Ranchi Airport will make significant contribution in MoCA’s ambition of carbon neutrality before 2030.

Q] Taxi Bots have emerged as a major significant equipment which is helping Delhi International Airport in saving fuel consumption. When are we going to see Ranchi International Airport using such technology to reduce carbon emission?

Answer: It heavily depends on the airline companies if they want to use such technology. Having said that, I will surely pitch the idea to credible stakeholders and will welcome the services of such advanced technology for the better cause.
