Prithvi Shaw scripts history with 377-run knock in Ranji Trophy

When Chetan Sharma-led Senior Selection Committee will meet to pick squad for upcoming home series against New Zealand and Australia, Prithvi Shaw’s name will surely pop in everyone’ head. The Mumbai batter unleashed beast mode during Ranji Trophy match against Assam, as he slammed 379-runs off just 383 deliveries, at Amingaon Cricket Ground in Guwahati.
With his maiden triple century knock in the first-class cricket, the prolific top-order batter became the second-highest individual score in RanjiTrophy history, scored highest individual score for Mumbai in a single Ranji Trophy innings. Notably, Sanjay Manjrekar had the highest individual score record of 377 runs for Mumbai against Hyderabad in the 1990-91 season.

On Wednesday, Shaw became the ninth batsman to score 350-plus runs in Ranji Trophy innings, going past Swapnil Gugale (351*), Cheteshwar Pujara (352), VVS Laxman (353), Samit Gohel (359), MV Sridhar (366) and Sanjay Manjrekar (377).
Shaw is the only batter to score a century in T20s, a double hundred in List A cricket, and a 300 in first-class cricket. The batter has joined an elite list which includes Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag.

Shaw had an average start to Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season as he could only add 160-runs – 13, 6, 19, 4, 68, 35 and 15 – in his last seven innings, averaging just 22.85. Earlier, he finished as second highest run-getter (332) in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at a strike rate of 181.42, and 217-runs in seven innings of Vijay Hazare Trophy.
