Colombo: Md. Siraj stole the show in Colombo with his match-defining spell against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 Final. The right-arm pacer hunted down Sri Lanka’s entire batting lineup in the 1st innings.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first but least they knew what’s coming towards them. It was Bumrah who started the carnage by dismissing Kusal Perera (0) in the first over of the match, courtesy to KL Rahul’s brilliant catch behind the wicket.
While Bumrah set the ton for India in a high-stake game, Siraj rose to fame with his lethal spell in the 4th over of the match. It was the 4th over of the 1st innings when Siraj reduced Sri Lanka to from 8/1 to 12/5. W, 0, W, W, 4 and W were the readings of the 4th over in 1st innings.
Siraj hunted down Pathum Nissanka (0), Sadeera Samarawickrama (0), Charith Asalanka (0) and Dhananjaya de Silva (4) in the 4th over. Siraj also dismissed Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka (0) in the 5.4 over and in-form Kusal Mendis in the 12th over of the game.
It was Siraj’s over that helped India to restrict Sri Lanka at 50/10 in the 1st innings. Much to everyone’s expectations India registered 10 wicket win over the co-hosts of the Asia Cup 2023.
