Players like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Mithali Raj and others must come forward to help blind cricket and cricketers – Ajay Kumar Reddy, Captain, Team India (Blind Cricket)

Well-recognised players must step forward to help blind cricket. Players like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rohit Sharma earn a good amount from advertisement and sponsorship. Their revenue from one advertisement can improve the structure of blind cricket. They have got so much from cricket; it’s time to give it back, believes Ajay Kumar Reddy (Blind Cricket).

The Indian skipper stood tall against Bangladesh’s bowling in the summit clash of the T20 World Cup 2022 to ensure a third successive title for the country. His century knock helped the side to post a mammoth 277 in 20 overs.

While speaking exclusively to The Quotes, Mr. Reddy requested prolific players like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Mithali Raj, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and others to raise their voices for blind cricket and cricketers.

They must understand what we are going through. They are in a position to vouch for us and bring some change in the game. Cricket has given so much to them, it’s the time they should use their position to bring some positive change in the sports. Even if voluntarily, they decide to donate some amount to DCCI, blind cricketers will be thankful to them,” said Ajay Kumar Redd.

The Indian skipper further felt that the relevant stakeholders in the corporate industry must start thinking of promoting blind cricket. “There is so much that can be done from the corporate level. They are investing in men’s cricket; women’s IPL is at the doorstep. If they invest in blind cricket, that would be a great help to us,” added Mr. Reddy.

The Indian skipper also revealed that renowned producer Ronnie Screwvala approached him (in 2017) with the idea of making a movie on blind cricket, but ‘unfortunately nothing panned out.’

We have won five World Cup titles. We have players who have struggled a lot, and still putting lot of efforts to meet ends meet. The journey of every player in the blind cricket team can turn into a script, worth watching. I would request stakeholders in the Bollywood and other regional film industries to make movies on our stories as it will draw lot of traction towards us,” concludes Mr. Reddy.
