ODI World Cup 2023: Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium To Go Major Renovation Ahead of ICC Event

Following the announcement of the final schedule for the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India, reports have indicated that Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium is set to undergo major overhaul ahead of the marquee clash.

Previously criticised for poor infrastructure and lack of basic hygiene will receive an investment of Rs. 20 and Rs. 25 crores to improve its facilities.

Earlier in April, a gap assessment report identified Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium, and stadiums in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Mohali as venues require major infrastructure improvement.

While Mohali failed to get even a single game of 2023 World Cup, rest of the venues will host matches during epic cricketing event – starting from October 5.

Rajan Manchanda, joint secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) noted immediate need to improve lot of aspects of the stadium.

The DDCA management aims to replace 10,000 spectator seats, renovate washrooms, improved paintwork and changes in ticketing software and has set up September 15 as the deadline to finish all the work.

“We have planned substantial upgrade in the facilities which will include changing of spectators seats, renovated washrooms, paint work and change in our ticketing software,” Manchanda told PTI.  He further admitted that his team needs to work on providing clean washroom and hygienic food and water at a reasonable price to the fans.

“The strength of the housekeeping staff will also be increased. We plan to complete all the work by September 15,” he added. Meanwhile, DDCA’s join secretary has confessed that they will not be able to cover the roof due to design flaws, meaning fans will be exposed to the sun during matches.

The BCCI and the International Cricket Council will conduct a thorough inspection of the venue, including pitch and outfield, in the third week of July.
