Nepal plane crash | List of aircrashes that rocked Nepal in recent past

A 72-passenger Nepalese aircraft tragically crashed upon landing at Pokhara International Airport in Nepal’s Kaski district on Sunday. According to fresh reports 40 people have lost their lives, including five Indians, four Russian, two South Korean and one Irish.

Emergency rescue operations are currently being conducted at the airport with bodies being continuously recovered from ground zero.

A total of 72 people – 68 passengers and four crew members – were on board, confirmed Yeti Airlines. Following the incident, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal called an emergency cabinet meeting and directed rescue operations.

Reports have confirmed that the airport has been temporarily closed owing to the incident. However, Nepal has been a hotspot for air-crashes in the past and a couple of such incidents have rocked the neighbours in the past. Let’s look at the list of air-crashes in Nepal. 

In May 2022, 22 passengers, including four Indians were killed when Tata Airplane crashed.

In 2016, all 23 people onboard were killed when a plane of the same airline flying the same route crashed after take-off.

In March 2018, a US-Bangla Air crash occurred at the Tribhuvan International Airport, killing 51 people onboard.

In September 2012, a Sita Air flight crashed while making an emergency landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport, killing 19 people.

A plane flying from Pokhara to Jomson crashed into the new Jomson airport on May 14, 2012, killing 15 people.
