Madhya Pradesh clinched National Wheelchair title by beating Andhra Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh notched up a thrilling win in the finals of the state’s first national wheelchair competition held under the aegis of the Divyang Cricket Control Board of India at the Old Campion Ground. The final was played between hosts Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh on December 8 (Thursday).
While batting first, Madhya Pradesh posted 109 runs in 15 overs on the back of a brilliant batting display from Neerukonda Siva (43 off 45) and Kaveripakam (45 off 34).
In response, Madhya Pradesh could not find the right momentum as their top-order failed miserably during the run chase. Ramvishal Jatav (35 off 18) and Rahul Tilmar (19 off 14) were the only noteworthy performers from Andhra Pradesh squad.
Madhya Pradesh pacer Maleshwar was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling display, picking up four wickets in the game.
Post-match, Mr. Prateek Hajela, Principal Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Disabled Welfare, expressed his happiness over the achievement of the disabled sportspersons of Madhya Pradesh.
Notably, five other states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, featured in the competition.
Haroon Rasheed, General Secretary Divyang Cricket Control Board of India and Wheelchair Cricket, Joint Secretary Ramesh Sartape, CEO Ghazal Khan, founder of Umang Gauravdeep Welfare Society, Deepti Patwa and Ajay Sharma marked their presence during the match.
