Khakee Sequel After 20 Years: No Akshay, Ajay In Mix

MUMBAI: A sequel to Rajkumar Santoshi’s blockbuster cop action drama ‘Khakee’ is now in the works, nearly two decades after the original’s release. The 2004 film featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Tusshar Kapoor and was a massive success at the box office.
Actor-filmmaker Aryeman Ramsay, son of the late producer Keshu Ramsay, who supported the original film, confirmed the sequel in an interview with News18.
Aryeman Ramsay stated, “Yes, we are planning a sequel to Khakee. The scripting is underway, and we have a basic plot in mind. We intend to begin filming next year, as it will mark the 20th anniversary of the original film, which is still cherished by fans and audiences.”
He revealed that the sequel would feature a fresh script set in the contemporary era and would also have a connection to the original film.
Regarding the casting, Aryeman explained, “My family has a close relationship with Akshay sir, but unfortunately, his character met his demise in the first part, so we can’t include him. Ajay sir and Aishwarya’s characters also meet the same fate in the film.”
“I will approach Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) once I have a solid script in place. I would also like to have Tusshar Kapoor reprise his role in the film. In addition to them, we will introduce new cast members. I have spoken with Rajkumar Santoshji, and I would only want him to direct the sequel,” he cocluded.
