Keeping things simple under pressure and backing youngsters makes MS Dhoni special: Irfan Pathan

MS Dhoni’s ability to keep things simple and not give up on its players makes him special and stand out from others in the crop, feels former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan. Notably, MS Dhoni and his midas touch is back once again as the 41-year-old has guided his IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings in the 10th IPL final.
After comprehensive beating defending champions Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 1, Chennai Super Kings stormed into yet other finals of the Indian Premier League. As the whole cricket fraternity and fan credited MS Dhoni and his extraordinary skills which has worked so well for Chennai, Irfan Pathan thinks MS has kept things simple over the years and continued to back his players.
“The ability to make a basic, simple decision under pressure consistently. He is so good at it. Look, when it comes to doing that for years and years, you might want to go out of your skin and out of your comfort zone and something extraordinary. But MS has never done that. He is always in his mind and zone under pressure,” Irfan Pathan told Aaj Tak.
The prolific all-rounder of his time, said that MS has become a genius of the game is because of his habit of keeping things very simple. Commenting on MS Dhoni has been able to nurture the youngsters in such a competitive tournament and extract better results, Irfan Pathan cited Umran Malik’s example.
“Umran Malik is an Indian player and after a couple of games where he leaked 10 runs per over, he was dropped. But, with MS, you will not see that. If he knows you can do the job, he will let you play and not even touch you. So that makes a young player perform well because they know they are secure,” he added.
