Man dies after receiving fruit juice transfused instead of platelets in Prayagraj, Mayor ensures ‘zero tolerance’ against such negligence

Prayagraj: A private hospital in Prayagraj has been sealed by the Chief Medical Officer of the city following the death of a patient suffering from dengue on October 19 (Wednesday) after he was allegedly transfused with fruit juice instead of platelets. The deceased, identified as Pradeep Pandey, was a resident of Bamrauli, and was admitted to the Global Hospital in Jhalwa before he succumbed to dengue.
Family members of the deceased have made stern allegations that the patient was given a mosambi (Sweet lime) juice instead of platelets. The same video went viral on the internet, sparking massive outrage on social media. While the hospital has been seized on immediate effect, Ms Abhilasha Gupta, Mayor of Prayagraj, told The Quotes that stringent action would be taken against the hospital authorities if they were found guilty in the investigation.
“An investigation is underway, and the administration has acted swiftly on the matter. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any negligence of the health of a common person. If the allegations from the family members come true strict action will be taken against the hospital authorities,” said Ms Abhilasha.
Saurabh Mishra, the hospital’s owner, reportedly declined the allegation by stating that the patient’s platelets dropped to 17,000, and his relatives were asked to arrange blood platelets for him.
Meanwhile, Brajesh Pathak, UP Health Minister, took cognisance of the reports and viral video floating on the internet and stated that he had ordered strict action against the same. The packet of platelets has been sent for the probe. “If found guilty, strict action will be taken against the hospital,” he tweeted.
