Jay Shah confirms future of Asia Cup will be decided after IPL 2023 final, will hold talk with other board chairs

BCCI secretary and Asia Cricket Council President Jay Shah on Thursday confirmed that the discussions for hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023 will take place after IPL 2023 Final, on May 28, Sunday.

Notably, Pakistan is official host of the continental tournament but with India not travelling to the country, it has caused major challenge for ACC and PCB.

After BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that Indian players will not travel Pakistan for the 50-over tournament, PCB Chair threatened that its government will not allow its players to travel India for the ICC ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in India, later this year.

With no solution, PCB Chief Najam Sethi proposed hybrid-model, in which India would play its matches at neutral venues, while other teams in Pakistan. As per hybrid-model, if India reaches to the final stage, summit-clash would take place at neutral venue.

In a fresh development, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has revealed that the presidents of the Bangaldesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka cricket boards will be present at the IPL Final on May 28 in Ahmedabad and discussion to confirm the outlining the of the Asia Cup 2023 will take place after that.

“The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 Final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023,” Jay Shah told PTI.

The Asia Cup 2023 window is between September 1 to 17.
