BENGALURU: In a heartening gesture, the groundsmen at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru showcased their appreciation for Suryakumar Yadav, who clinched the ‘Fielder of the Match’ award in India’s victory against the Netherlands on Sunday.
Suryakumar was honored with the medal by left-arm throwdown specialist coach Nuwan Seneviratne, and India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, commended the Sri Lankan’s invaluable contribution.
Acknowledging Suryakumar’s dual role and exceptional fielding, Dilip expressed gratitude, stating, “Tirelessly working behind the stumps playing dual roles. But especially in the fielding, he has been my right shoulder, my everything.”
Suryakumar, in turn, expressed contentment with his performance and credited fielding coach T Dilip for a year-long collaboration behind the scenes. The 33-year-old remarked, “He (Dilip) has been behind me for one year; finally, I think this is the reward.”
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer and Lokesh Rahul’s attacking centuries propelled India to a 160-run victory over the Netherlands in the final group-stage match at the Cricket World Cup.
