If not Rahul Gandhi, Congress may field Priyanka from Amethi in General election 2024: Report

Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Member of Parliament has jeopardize Congress’ revival plan. Despite getting a breather from ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ Congress has been hit hard as its most possible Prime Ministerial candidate is no more a Lok Sabha member. 

After losing home Congress bastion, Amethi in 2019 to BJP leader Smriti Irani, Mr. Gandhi has lost its only chance to take on BJP in Lok Sabha I.e. Waynad constituency.

While lot of buzz is revolving around Waynad’s by polls and how Congress would deal with its fresh setback, politics in Uttar Pradesh is also not untouched with the new development.

As per report published in India Today, a section of Congress is thinking to field yet another Gandhi from Gandhi’s former bastion. 

As per top Congress functionaries Priyanka Gandhi is the first choice to be Congress candidate from Amethi.

A local congress leader told India Today that ‘If by any chance Rahul doesn’t contest, Didi would be an automatic choice from Amethi. 

The congress source further claimed that the party workers believe that people in Amethi have emotional connection with Gandhi family and can only Gandhi can win the constituency.

Other names which have floated are Varun Gandhi, former Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, and Deepak Singh.
