After Indian batters almost choked at Lucknow’s Ekana stadium during the 2nd T20I against New Zealand, they were at blistering best at Narendra Modi stadium on Wednesday evening. Shubman Gill (126 off 63), Rahul Tripathi (44 off 22), Suryakumar Yadav (24 off 13) and skipper Hardik Pandya (30 off 17) batted brilliantly on the day to propel India’ score at 234-4 in 20 overs.

Earlier, Team India had a hard walk at Ekana stadium while chasing just 99-runs on board by New Zealand. Although, Suryakumar Yadav’s mature knock in Lucknow helped the side to chase the total in the final over.

The Ekana surface, which asked tough questions to the Indian batters, was termed ‘shocker’ by the Indian skipper Hardik Pandya, followed by sacking of the pitch curator. Yes, the pitch curator has been sacked from his position.

While many Indian cricket fans criticised the Indian skipper’s statement which cost the pitch curator his job, India’s vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav too made it clear that players are ready to play on any sort of surface.

“I had a chat with Hardik Pandya, and it was like, whatever we get in future we will go with it. It’s completely fine. It does not matter what soil you play on. These are the things which are not in your control,” Suryakumar Yadav said on the eve of 3rd T20I against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the surface at Narendra Modi stadium turned out to be a one-sided affair for Men in Blue, and for which the pitch curator deserves a round of applause from the skipper. Besides that, Hardik should surely come out in the open and call it a ‘paradise’ so that the curator should get a promotion.

There is little doubt that the pitch curator of Ekana stadium had a sad ending to his job, and an Indian player must intervene in the matter to get his job back. And if not, then the administration of Ekana stadium must take accountability for being reckless while making such a decision.
