Got The Cheques But Never The Money: Saeed Ajmal Reveals Pak Team Never Received Prize Money For 2009 T20 WC Triumph
Former Pakistan cricket Saeed Ajmal made a shocking revelation regarding Pakistan Cricket Board not paying the prize money to the team for winning the 2009 T20 World Cup. Notably, Younis Khan-led side outplayed Sri Lanka to lift their maiden T20 WC title at iconic Lord’s.
While speaking to Nadir Ali podcast, Pakistan spinner disclosed that Pakistan government gave cheque of 25 Lakh PKR to each player, but the money never credited in the account.
“Our cheques after ICC T20 World Cup 2009 win got dishonored. We got the cheques but never the money. Yusuf Raza Gillani sir was there. The cheques got bounced. It was a cheque of 25 Lakh,” he said.
Speaking of Ajmal’s performance in the 2009 World Cup, the right-arm off-spinner clinched 12 wickets and was the second highest wicket taker for the team after Umar Gul. In his decorative career, Ajmal was included in ICC ODI Team of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
