Ahmedabad: – Cricket sensation Shubman Gill’s arrival in Ahmedabad on October 12th has cast a shadow of uncertainty over his participation in the highly anticipated ODI World Cup match against Pakistan, scheduled for October 14th.
Gill’s recent hospitalization in Chennai due to dengue fever had forced him to sit out of India’s second World Cup clash against Afghanistan, raising questions about his fitness for the upcoming crucial match.
The 24-year-old Gill has been a standout performer in ODIs throughout 2023, emerging as the leading run-scorer for the year, amassing an impressive total of 1230 runs with an average of 72.35 and a formidable strike rate of 105.03.
Notably, he was also the highest run-scorer during India’s successful Asia Cup 2023 campaign, where he amassed 302 runs. While a BCCI source has indicated that Gill’s recovery is progressing positively, there is still uncertainty regarding his availability for the Pakistan clash.
The anonymous BCCI source stated, “Gill is doing absolutely fine and is set to leave Chennai for Ahmedabad today. It is still not clear whether Gill will have a light training session at Motera on Thursday. His recovery has been fine, but we can’t really be sure if he can play against Pakistan.”
Gill has already missed the first two World Cup games – the opener against Australia in Chennai and the recent game against Afghanistan.
His late-night arrival in Ahmedabad has fueled speculation about his return to the playing XI. Cricket enthusiasts eagerly await updates on Gill’s status as the World Cup match against Pakistan looms closer.
