Fatima Sana Shaikh ‘Wasn’t Sure’ About Playing Indira Gandhi In Sam Bahadur

Mumbai: Fatima Sana Shaikh credits director Meghna Gulzar’s unwavering faith in her as the driving force behind her decision to take on the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in ‘Sam Bahadur.’

A Director’s Actor: Fatima emphasizes the importance of being a “director’s actor” when portraying such an iconic personality like Indira Gandhi. She trusted Meghna’s vision for the character.

“I did it because I love her work. She made the journey easy for me. She knew what she wanted, whether it was the graph of the performance or look. You have to be a director’s actor. That’s what I did,” she said.

Capturing the Essence: Rather than mere imitation, Fatima aimed to capture the essence and soul of Indira Gandhi under Meghna Gulzar’s unique direction.

Focus on Emotions: Meghna Gulzar’s approach focuses on getting the emotions and the soul of the character right, rather than just physical resemblance.
