Jagruti Panda: Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer believes Shreyas Iyer’s calm and composed mind is best suited to lead Team India in future. Shreyas amassed outstanding figures last year, finishing as the highest run-getter across formats for Men in Blue.
In 17 games during the calendar year, Shreyas scored 724 runs at an average of 55.69 at a brisk strike rate of 91.52, including one century and six half-centuries. In an exclusive interaction with The Quotes, Venkatesh Iyer claimed that Shreyas Iyer is quite a composed personality which could provide a great edge as a leader.
“Shreyas brings his flamboyance in his batting and scores runs at ease. He absorbs all the pressure and channels it well in his performance. His calm and settled mind are the reason behind his consistency and he would be the right man to lead the team in future,” Venkatesh Iyer told The Quotes.
Venkatesh Iyer plays under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer for IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. Talking about Shreyas’ captaincy experience, the terrific top-order batter led IPL franchise Delhi Capitals to the finals of the IPL 2020, where they lost to Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets in Dubai. He then missed the IPL 2021 due to injury and DC handed the captaincy duties to Rishabh Pant, who continued to lead despite Shreyas’ return.
Shreyas was released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022 auction and KKR invested 12.25 crores to secure his services and the franchise won six out of 14 games, last year. As a batter he scored 401-runs in 14 innings at an average of 30.85 including three half-centuries. Under the leadership of Shreyas, Kolkata finished seventh in the ten-franchise competition.
