IIT Kanpur has been providing required assistance to the state and centre government at all verticals, in terms of cleaning river Ganga. We are absolutely ready if officials from Lucknow and Prayagraj will approach the IIT Kanpur in regards with cleaning river Ganga ahead of Maha Kumbh 2025, says Professor Vinod Tare (IIT Kanpur), Founding Head, CGanga at Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies told The Quotes.

The Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath recently reviewed the ongoing works under the Namami Gange programme with the aim of ensuring a clean Ganga ahead of the 2025 Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

Mr. Aditynath further instructed the officials to take the assistance from IIT Kanpur to ensure that a riverine city’s master plan is based on a river-centric approach. While speaking to The Quotes, Prof. Tare said that government is investing lot of time and R&D towards reviving the rivers, which are flowing through the cities.

“River-centric approach is an ideal plan to develop a city. In recent past we have seen rivers flowing through the city have suffered due to not implementation of river-centric approach. But I am hopeful that in coming time things will improve and we are making extensive efforts to redevelop plans ensuring prosperity of rivers,” added Prof. Tare.

Earlier, the Chief Minister expressed urgent need for a river-centric approach in planning riverine cities. “This should be part of the city’s master plan. Necessary action should be taken with the technical support of IIT Kanput,” said Mr. Adityanath. The Chief Minister further stressed on the development of Ganga nursery with the help of women self-help grops, ex-servicemen etc.
