ED investigates painting worth Rs 2 crore purchased by Yes Bank founder from Priyanka Gandhi
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started an investigation in connection with the painting which Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor bought from Priyanka Gandhi.
According to the probe agency, Rana Kapoor bought the painting for Rs. 2 crores from Priyanka Gandhi. Notably, the painting by MF Hussain was in possession of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi from whom Rana Kapoor bought it.
As per sources painting was the property of Congress and not Priyanka Gandhi. But still it was sold by her to Kapoor. The sources have further added that Rana Kapoor, then director of Yes Bank, was convinced by Congress leader Milind Deora.
Report published in India Today said that every amount Rana Kapoor has invested in properties is proceeds of crime and so are the Rs. 2 crore which was used to buy his painting.
Reportedly, Rana Kapoor had sent the cheque to Gandhi’s personal secretary and the value of the portrait was decided by Priyanka Gandhi.
The reports have claimed that Rana Kapoor has over 40 exquisite paintings in his possession. While Mr. Kapoor took certificates from experts for the valuation, no such certificates was obtained for the painting acquired from Priyanka Gandhi.
