DCW Chief Swati Maliwal takes cognizance of social media abuse to Shubman Gill’s sister, issues notice to Delhi Police

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police following social media abuse to IPL franchise Gujarat Titans batter Shubman Gill’s sister after latter produced a clinical performance against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Taking to Twitter, DCW Chief Swati Malilwal wrote;

“Taking suo-moto cognisance of the online trolling and abuse of cricketer #ShubmanGill’s sister, we have issued a notice to Delhi Police seeking registration of FIR. Police is to file a detailed action taken report by 26th May. Such criminals won’t be allowed to get away with this.”

In a must-win thriller, Shubman Gill smashed his second century of the season to guide Gujarat Titans to a comprehensive win against Virat Kohli-starrer Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After winning the game, Gill posted a picture on social media and he sister commented ‘My Baby’ on his Insta post. However, Gill’s sisters found herself at the receiving end and faced social media abuse.

In the 70th match, Virat Kohli was the first one to smash century and helped his side to post 197 on board. In response, Shubman Gill rose to the occasion and stitched crucial partnership with Vijay Shankar in the middle-order to push RCB out of the cash-rich league.
