Comments like ‘players taking injections’ and ‘faking fitness’ led to Chetan Sharma’s resignation: Report

Ever since a TV news channel broadcasted explosive sting operation on Chetan Sharma, Chairman of All-India Senior Men’s Selection Committee, many anticipated that it would bring the curtains down on Sharma’s hot & cold stint at the helm of Indian selection panel.

Chetan Sharma resigned on February 17, from his post after it was accepted by BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

On February 14, Zee News released video footage, recorded secretly, of Sharma opening up on various sensitive matters like criteria for national selection, alleged spat between Virat Kohli and Sourav Ganguly, Jasprit Bumrah’s injury and subsequently players taking injections to claim their fitness.

As per report published in Cricbuzz, Chetan Sharma’s resignation was confirmed due to the fact that he made some sensational revelations like players ‘taking injections’ and ‘faking fitness.’

Meanwhile, the selection panel comprising four selectors – Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, SS Das and S Sharath – met in Kolkata and was attended by Indian skipper and BCCI secretary Jay Shah after the second Test against Australia conducted on Sunday, in Delhi.

Reportedly, BCCI is yet to decide whether to recruit a new chairman or announce an interim chairman or make one from the existing four. Additionally, BCCI named a 15-member squad for the remaining two Test matches against Australia, which is scheduled to take place in Indore and Ahmedabad.
