Cabinet Approves Digital Personal Data Protection Bill 2022 – Must Read

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet Approved the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022 on Wednesday July 5. The bill is likely to be introduced in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament – starting July 20.

What the bill says?

As per available information all online and offline data in India will fall under its legal domain.

However, personal data will only be processed under this bill only if an individual has consent to it, but condition of national security and law & order will be an exception.

Notably, the Data Protection Bill was first drafted in November 2022, and went through several rounds of public consultations, following which a second draft of the bill was prepared.

In April this year, Centre government confirmed that the new Data Protection Bill will be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament in July.
