Brutally beaten, forced to eat from dustbins: Minor teen helper rescued from Gurugram

Gurugram: A 13-year-old domestic help has been rescued from her employer’s house in Gurugram last evening – after suffering horrific abuse over the last few months. Native of Jharkhand, minor was found with severe wounds all over her body, police officials said.
According to reports, the girl was allegedly beaten with hot togs and sticks by the couple. Initial investigation in the case suggests that the couple would starve, and thrash the girl accusing her of ‘not working properly’ and ‘stealing food.’
“She was not given food for days. The teen used to eat leftover food from the dustbin,” official said. As per reports, the girl was rescued by the police following a complaint filed by a Gurugram-based NGO.
The NGO contacted police after a Twitter thread on the girl’s condition by an activist went viral on social media.
The photographs shared by activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj showed the girl with bruises and burn injuries on her forehead, lips, cheeks and arms. Reportedly, minor was hired by the couple last year through a placement agency to take care of their three-month-old daughter.
The girl’s photographs have evoked sharp reactions all over internet and many have demanded stringent action for the couple. Sources have informed that the woman has been sacked from her organisation she worked for.
The couple has been arrested and a case under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences or POCSO Act among other charges.
