BCCI Sets Asia Cup 2023 As Deadline For KL Rahul’s Comeback: Report
Eying full-strength squad in 2023 World Cup later this year in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is hoping KL Rahul to make a comeback in Asia Cup 2023 and test his fitness ahead of the marquee event.
As per fresh reports, BCCI wants KL Rahul to work on his fitness and be in the field during Asia Cup -scheduled to take place in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. As India is set to pay all its Asia Cup matches in Sri Lanka, BCCI officials believe that would provide a good opportunity to the right-handed batter to prepare himself.
“Rahul’s recovery is going well. He should be fit in a month or so. Return from surgery is always tricky and he is a very important player for World Cup,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
Notably, Rahul suffered a thigh injury and had to undergo surgery in May. As Raul is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and taking part in rehabilitation, BCCI officials want Rahul to play few matches before World Cup.
“Ideally, we would want him to play some matches going into World Cup. Asia Cup is the perfect platform. But if he is 100 percent fit, Ireland is where we can see his fitness. It all depends on how he recovers,” senior BCCI official added.
Team India will kick start its World Cup campaign on October 8 against Australia in Chennai.
