Bangladesh Skipper Tamim Iqbal Gets Emotional As He Announces Shocking Retirement Ahead Of CWC 2023

In a shocking turn of events, Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in an emotional press conference on July 6, Thursday.

The prolific batter missed one-off Test against Afghanistan last month with a stiff back but made himself available for the one-day internationals.

After Bangladesh suffered an embarrassing 17-run defeat under Tamim Iqbal’s leadership by Afghanistan on Wednesday, the skipper confirmed that he will step down as the captain of Bangladesh cricket team. While announcing his retirement, Tamim also broke into tears.

In his illustrious career where he played 241 ODIs, Tamim Iqbal amassed 8313 runs – most for Bangladesh in the format and appeared in 70 Tests. Tamim has scored 7188 runs in the red-ball format which is the second highest for Bangladesh.
