Azamgarh: Why college authorities installed CCTV camera inside toilets
Azamgarh: In a bizarre turn of events, students of DAV PG College in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh staged protest outside the principal’s office alleging ‘invasion of privacy’ after the college authorities installed closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) outside toilets in a quest to catch the ‘toti chor’ (water tap thief).
Report published by India Today stated that students were irked after they came to know about the CCTVs outside toilets. “This is an invasion of privacy. The intelligence of the management has become corrupt,” students said.
Meanwhile, the college authorities has said that water taps are regularly being stolen from the campus.
“The CCTV cameras have been installed for security. However, one of the cameras got directed inside the toilet by mistake. An order has been issued to remove it and reinstall it at another place,” college authority was quoted in India Today report.
The principle of the college has instructed the management to make alternative arrangements to keep an eye on the theft of taps.
