New Delhi: In a major setback to the Hindu group, the Supreme Court of India on Monday ordered the Archaeological Survey of India to not conduct the survey till July 26 on the Gyanvapi mosque premises in Varanasi.

The SC also directed the Muslim petitioners to approach the Allahabad High Court for remedies.

The development came in the backdrop of Muslim petitioners from the mosque management committee filed a plea, seeking a stay on Varanasi district court’s order for an ASI survey of the mosque on whether it was built on a pre-existing temple.
