Ashes 2023: Nathan Lyon Ruled Out Due To Calf Injury; ‘Shattered And Gutted’
A day after Australia clinched second Ashes Test following an impressive all-round performance at Lord’s, Cricket Australia confirmed that legendary off-spinner Nathan Lyon has been ruled out of the remainder of the series due to calf injury.
The 35-year-old suffered the injury while fielding on the second day of the Lord’s Test. He didn’t bowl in the match but came out to bat amid round of a applause from Lord’s crowd and added 15-runs for the 10th wicket with Mitchel Starc in the second innings.
Interestingly, second Ashes Test was also Lyon’s 100th in a row for Australia. Alastair Cook, Allan Border, Mark Waugh, and Sunil Gavaskar and Brendon McCullum had managed to achieve this feat. In Lyon’s absence, Australia is likely to bring in Todd Murphy into the playing XI for Headingly Test – starting on Thursday, July 16.
In his previous India tour, Murphy bagged 14 Test wickets in four games at an average of 22.51 – including seven wicket-fer on his debut in Nagpur.
