A whimsical Man Can Just: Anurag Kashyap On India-Bharat Row

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has heavily criticised the idea of renaming the country’s name from India to Bharat on September 15, Friday by underlining that it’s an impractical exercise.

In an interview to Jitz, Mr. Kashyap said;q

“I don’t understand this. When was India not Bharat? When was India not Bharat? Just writing ‘Bharat,’ instead of ‘India’ on a piece of paper. And imagine doing this on all government documents, each and every one will need to get their passport renewed, Adhar cards and ration cards will have to be renewed. They’ll spend four years worth of tax money on this alone,” he was quoted by The Indian Express.

The director further claimed that with that process everything needs to be changes and countrymen will have to go through a lot of hardship.

“Everything will need to be changed. Is it a humanly possible task to do it without wasting all that money? Ek whimsical aadmi ek whim pe aise kare, uske consequences sochta hain kabhi wo (A whimsical man can just do this on a whim, without thinking about the consequences),’ he added.

Ahead of the recent G20 Summit in New Delhi, the dinner invites were referred as ‘President of Bharat’ instead of ‘President of India.’ Even at the summit, the card in front of PM Modi read ‘Bharat.’
