A young girl, son of a politician, and a deadly resort. The shocking murder of a 19-year-old in Uttarakhand is nothing less than a suspensful Bollywood script, but the reality is far more chilling because it’s a reality. After days of demanding the procurement final post-mortem report, the deceased’s family finally agreed to perform the last rites of the girl. 

Six days after going missing, her body was recovered from the Chilla canal close to Rishikesh early on September 24 (Saturday), sending a shockwave all around. Massive protests, local markets remained closed, and locals voicing capital punishment against culprits were few followed-up events ever since the accused’s body was recovered. Pulkit Arya, one of the prime accused in Ankita Bhandari murder case, is the owner of the Vanantra Resort, the son of former state minister and now expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinod Arya. During the interrogation, the accused admitted to the police that the whole case began with a verbal argument between Pulkit Arya and the deceased. Arya had told the other accused to “take the girl to Rishikesh,” as she was “upset.”

The deceased’s mobile chat history was investigated, and her messages sent to her friend via WhatsApp showed that she was pressured to provide ‘special services to the guests at the resort. “Days before she went missing, the woman had sent WhatsApp messages to her close friend sharing her ordeal,” he said.

A Facebook friend of the woman has revealed that she was killed because she refused to have sex with guests at the resort, for which she was offered Rs. 10,000. The chats also reveal that this “extra service” was provided in the guise of a spa treatment.

“Not satisfied with the provisional post-mortem report,” Family of the deceased.

Her last rites will not be performed until we get the final detailed post-mortem report,” the victim’s father had said earlier.

The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, released the post-mortem draft report which confirmed that the deceased sustained grave injury marks on her body. 

“Case will be taken to fast track for speedy action,” DIG P Renuka Devi.

DIG P Renuka Devi has assured that the accused will get maximum punishment, and the case will be taken to a fast-track court for speedy action.

The father of the prime accused and former state minister and now expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vinod Arya, denied all the allegations against his son and claimed: “he is innocent and would never indulge in such activity.”

Responding to the shocking murder of the girl, Mr Pushkar Singh Dhami said that police are extensively working and have arrested the accused. “Strictest punishment would be given for such heinous crimes, whoever be the criminal,” he added.
