Srinagar: A major attempt to disrupt peace in Srinagar was foiled after a terrorist was neutralised along the LOC in the Tangdhar sector on the wee hours of October 26, 2022. One AK series rifle, two pistols, a large quantity of ammunition and war-like stores were recovered during a joint operation by the Indian Army and PoJK.

According to Srinagar-based PRO, Defence, Col Emron Musavi, a piece of specific information, corroborated with other intelligence inputs regarding the infiltration of a group of LeT terrorists, through forward Sudpura in Karnah Tehsil of Kupwara District. “In the wee hours of October 26, the infiltrating terrorists were fired, leading to the elimination of one terrorist. Taking advantage of darkness, the other terrorist managed to flee to PoJK side,” informed the officer.

Col. Emron Musavi further informed that a search operation was launched in the morning where war-like equipment was recovered. “One AK series rifle, two pistols, a large quantity of ammunition and war-like stores were recovered,” stated the officer. Initial investigations have identified the eliminated terrorist as Mohammed Shakur, 32, a native of Syedpura in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

“The Security Forces received several inputs about possible infiltration by a group of LeT terrorists through Sudpura. Based on the above inputs, the area was kept under constant surveillance. Timely action and close coordination between the Indian Army, JKP and other Intelligence agencies led to the foiling of the infiltration attempt and potential threat to peace in the hinterland,” informed the officer.
