Dear death, come into my life: Accused held for murdering DG Prison, J&K found to be depressed

Saleem Qadri: A domestic help allegedly accused for murdering Director General of Prison, Jammu & Kashmir, has been arrested by local police after thorough manhunt. Mr. Mukesh Singh, ADGP, Jammu confirmed the arrest of the accused via Twitter post.

“In a major manhunt launched by J&K police throughout the night, the accused involved in Murder case of Shri Hemant Lohia has been apprehended. Interrogation of the accused has started,” wrote ADGP, Jammu.

A high-profile murder shocked the valley in the wee hours of Tuesday after Hemant Lohia, Director General, Prison of Jammu & Kashmir, was found murdered in a mysterious condition in his house in Uadiwala. Reportedly, domestic helper, identified as a prime suspect feld after committing murder.

Earlier, Mr. Singh informed that, “Mr Lohia was resting after dinner with two house servants, identified as Mohinder and Yasir. Mr Lohia asked Yasir to massage in feet. Yasir strangulated Lohia with a pillow and then used the broken ketchup bottle to slit his throat. He set the body on fire,” informed Mr Singh.

‘Dear death, come into my life,’ a note reads. ‘I’m sorry I have a bad day, week, month, year, life,’ read the diary of the prime accused,” read the diary of the suspect.

“Police seized some documentary evidence, including his diary, reflecting his mental state. The diary, which appears to be Ahmed’s, sheds light on a depressed state of mind. Primarily investigation showed that the security guards broke into Mr Lohia’s room after they saw flames. The room was locked from the inside. CCTV footage shows the suspect running away,” said Mr. Singh.

“He (Ahmed) had been working at this house for nearly six months. Initial investigations reveal he was quite aggressive and was also suffering from depression as per sources,” Mr Singh claimed.

The 57-year-old was appointed Director General of Prisons (J&K) in August. D.G. Jail Hemant Kumar Lohia was considered tough and was counted among the sharpest officers in J&K. In February 2022; he was posted to J&K as Additional Director General. He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter. His son was supposed to get married next December.
